Friends Provident T20 final August 14 2010, Rosebowl
Hampshire 173 for 5 (McKenzie 52, Ervine 44*) beat Somerset 173 for 6 (Kieswetter 71) by losing fewer wickets.
In an exciting day of 20-20 Cricket, Hampshire beat Somerset to become champions of the Friends Provident Trophy T20, 2010. In a rain affected day at Southampton, First Semifinal was played between Essex and Hampshire, which Hampshire won by 6 wickets, Pakistan allrounder Abdul Razzak top scoring with 44. With showers on and off, I was thinking that we are not going to get any more games. Luckily ground staff worked hard to drain the ground, and heavy cloud cover moved away. So second semifinal was on in which Somerset beat Nottinghamshire by 3 runs in D/L method. Somerset made 182 /5 in 20 overs powerd by big hitting KA Pollard and JC Buttler. Wet conditions made bowling difficult. Notts were going great with David Hussey and Samit Patel scoring at will, Murali Karthik was at the receiving end giving away 28 runs in his 3 overs. Notts reached 111/3 at the end of 12th over. First ball of the next over saw a great catch by Pollard at the boundary , which turned to be a match winning one. Everyone thought Samit Patel's big hit was going over the rope for a six, when tall Pollard timed his jump perfectly to catch it. Rain started again and after 13 overs Noots were 117/4, D/L Par score being 121. With no more play possible , Somerset was declared winners.
Rain stopped after a while and stage was set for the big final. Trescothick winning the toss for Somerset and elected to bat first. They scored 173/6 in 20 overs, Kieswetter scored 71 of 54 balls after a slow, struggling start. Pollard was badly hit by a Dominic Cork bouncer in the last over, and was taken to hospital.
At one stage Hampshire looked like winning comfortably, but they made it so close in the end , and nearly lost it. Hampshire scored 173/5 in 20 overs, and won by virtue of loosing fewer wickets.
Hampshire required 2 runs from the last ball , ( tie without losing a wicket will also make them winners ) Dan Christian facing the final ball, had to call for a runner as he pulled his muscle in the previous run. Z de Bruyn bowled 5 short pitched balls, in which Hampshire batsmen were running for byes in 3 occasions. Wicket keeper Kieswetter missed the stumps every time , and now he decided to come up to the stumps for the final ball. Ball looked straight in real time and struck on the pads of Christian, Somerset boys were disappointed as umpire turned down their very strong appeal. Batsmen took a leg bye and scores were leveled. Replays showed ball was going down and kissing outer side of leg stump, I will say it was a very good decision, you cant give those out.
The funny thing was Christian forgot he has runner, and he himself ran for the legbye. Which means striker with a runner out of his ground and he would have been run out if somerset fielders remove the bail at strikers end. They didn't realized the opportunity, even batsmen were not aware of it as Christian didnt make ant effort to go back to strikers end. May be players not aware of the rule!. Umpires knew exactly what was happening , they were waiting for few seconds. Still Somerset players were not aware of the opportunity, and didn't even threw the ball to wicket keeper. A great chance missed and Hampshire emerged winners of 2010 Friend Provident Trophy. South African Neil McKenzie was adjudged man of the match for his 39 balls 52. Score card

Dhoni was named in the squad for the final ODI, which should mean India have no intentions of resting him. His coming back should be the only change in the batting line-up, because India don't have any reserve batsmen. Harbhajan Singh could be rested, though, and this would be the best opportunity to give Sudeep Tyagi a debut.
India: (probable) 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Gautam Gambhir, 4 Virat Kohli, 5 MS Dhoni (capt/wk), 6 Suresh Raina, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 Pragyan Ojha, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Sudeep Tyagi, 11 Ashish Nehra.
Their opening problem solved, Sri Lanka are left looking for one more middle-order mainstay to go with Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. Chamara Kapugedera, Thilan Samaraweera and Jayasuriya have all disappointed there, and that will be the only major decision to make. Thissara Perera and Suranga Lakmal should retain their places, while Lasith Malinga will be under pressure to hold his.
Sri Lanka: (probable) 1 Upul Tharanga, 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (capt/wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 and 6 two out of Sanath Jayasuriya, Chamara Kapugedera and Thilan Samaraweera, 7 Thilina Kandamby, 8 Thissara Perera, 9 Suraj Randiv, 10 Lasith Malinga/Ajantha Mendis, 11 Suranga Lakmal.

India vs Srilanka, Wed Dec 9 , 2009 12:00 GMT India v Sri Lanka at Nagpur, 1st T20I
India have rested Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh from the Twenty20 internationals which means the bowling line-up is likely to be Ashish Nehra, Sreesanth, Ishant Sharma and Pragyan Ojha. There's is a doubt over Sreesanth, though, because the bowler has an upset stomach. If he is unfit one of the rookies - Sudeep Tyagi, R Ashwin and Ashok Dinda - could get a look in.
India (possible): 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Virender Sehwag, 3 Suresh Raina, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 6 Rohit Sharma, 7 Yusuf Pathan, 8 Pragyan Ojha, 9 Sreesanth, 10 Ishant Sharma, 11 Ashish Nehra.
Murali injured ligaments in a couple of fingers while training during the third Test and is likely to be rested from the Twenty20 matches.
Sri Lanka (possible): 1 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 2 Sanath Jayasuriya, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (capt & wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Chamara Kapugedera, 6 Angelo Mathews, 7 Kaushalya Weeraratne, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Ajantha Mendis, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11 Chanaka Welegedara.
India were dealt with a big blow ahead of the first Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka with in-form speedster S Sreesanth rendered a doubtful starter for tomorrow's encounter which promises to be a high-scoring affair.
Sreesanth skipped the practice session Tuesday because of diarrhea and it appears that the temperamental Kerala pacer will have to wait for some more time before returning to the T20 arena. "He is not well.
We are hoping he will get well before the game," India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said. "I don't know the exact scene right now.
The physio (Nitin Patel) told me he was not well, may be diarrhea or something," he said. Sreesanth's unavaibility could mean a debut for either Bengal paceman Ashok Dinda or fellow Uttar Pradesh pacer Sudeep Tyagi though the team management has given no indication regarding the composition of the team.
Having crowned themselves the number one team in Test rankings, India would look to assert their supremacy in the shortest format as well when they go into the first game.
India have made a few changes in their squad, resting pace spearhead Zaheer Khan and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and calling up youngsters Dinda and R Ashwin.

India vs Srilanka, Sewhag puts India in driver's seat against SL
Virender Sehwag's whirlwind unbeaten 284 powered India to a record 443 for one in the first innings, in reply to Sri Lanka's 393, at the end of second day's play in the third and the final cricket Test at the Brabourne Stadium here Thursday.
At stumps, giving Sehwag company was Rahul Dravid, who was batting on 87, as India scored record number of runs on a day and that too in less than three sessions and also took a 50-run lead. It was also the second time that India scored 400 or more in a day's play, surpassing the 417 for two on the first day of the second Test in Kanpur.
It was a class act by the Indian batsmen, especially Sehwag who completely dominated the day and scored at more than five-and-a-half runs per over after bowlers packed up the Sri Lankan tail within 30 minutes early in the day at the historic Brabourne.
Sri lankan bowlers had a torrid time and Sehwag didn't allow any of the them to settle down. He played a flawless innings and was severe on the spinners as Muttiah Muralitharan's woeful form in the series continued. The only opportunity Sehwag gave the Sri Lankans was when he was on 273 but Mahela Jayawardene failed to grab it at first slip.
Both the openers, Sehwag and Murali Vijay (87), set the tone of the innings by giving a promising start with their 221-run first wicket stand. The duo quickly raced on to score 93 by the lunch break and accelerated the scoring in the second session by adding another 138 runs. With Dravid, Sewhag added another 222 runs for the unbroken second-wicket stand to make matters worse for Sri Lankan.
Sehwag, who scored a breezy 167 in Kanpur, started cautiously but then went on a rampage hitting 40 fours and seven sixes in the second fastest double century. He simply toyed with the Sri Lankan attack and none escaped the fury of his blade.
Vijay, playing his second Test match, was the perfect foil for Sewhag and rotated the strike, but never lost out on opportunites to punish the loose deliveries.
Sehwag also got to his 6,000 Test runs and that too in style by hitting left-arm spinner Rangana Herath for a big six over the bowler's head. He also became the third fastest Indian after Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar to score 6,000 runs in Test cricket. Gavaskar achieved the mark in 117 innings, Tendulkar in 120 and Sehwag has taken 123 innings.
Vijay got his maiden half-century by hitting Muttiah Muralitharan for a huge six over long on. He was set for his maiden Test hundred when trapped leg before by Herath. Vijay hit ten fours and a six during his 121-ball innings.
Earlier, Sri Lanka could add just 27 runs to their overnight score of 366 for eight. Angelo Matthews was unfortunate to get run out one short of his maiden Test century and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha trapped Chanaka Welegedara leg before wicket to wrap up the Dri Lankan innings.
Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh picked up four for 112 while Ojha bagged three for 107.
India lead the series 1-0 and a win here will propel them to the top spot in Test rankings. The historic Brabourne Stadium is hosting the first Test match in 36 years.

India vs Australia 1st ODI Highlights , OCT, 25, 2009
India slumped to a heart-breaking four-run defeat to Australia to begin the seven-ODI series in Vadodara. Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar heroically brought India back in the match when they'd look dead and buried. Their thrilling eighth-wicket partnership of 84 in 57 balls reduced the equation to nine runs needed from six balls. Harbhajan fell for a 31-ball 49 to Peter Siddle, who conceded just four in the final over. With as many as four half-centurions today, Australia motored to 292-8 in a well-compiled, smoothly paced innings after electing to bat. Only Gautam Gambhir could resist the onslaught of Australia's bowlers, making 68 in a lost cause. In a match that had the ability to silence people who question ODI cricket’s existence, Australia beat India by 4 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the 7 match series.
